How to prepare a file for CNC cutting

    In short

Send a vector file (DXF or DWG) at 1:1 scale in millimetres. Every part must be a closed contour and every operation must be on a separate layer. State the material, thickness and quantity. If you only have a PDF, AI, CDR or a dimensioned sketch, we accept that too – drawing preparation is included in the quote.

    File format

DXF and DWG are best, because they open directly in CAM software. We also accept vector PDF, AI and CDR files, as well as a photo or sketch with clearly written dimensions.

    Scale and units

The drawing must be at 1:1 scale, in millimetres. Check one known dimension before sending the file – the most common mistake is a drawing in centimetres or inches.

    Closed contours

Each part is a single closed polyline. No broken lines, and no duplicated or overlapping lines on top of each other. An open contour cannot be cut correctly.

    Layers per operation

Separate the operations into layers and include the depth in the layer name.

    LayerOperation
CUTThrough-cut of the full material thickness
POCKET_5Pocket (milled recess) 5 mm deep
VGROOVEV-groove for folding (ACM (Etalbond) cassettes)
DRILL_8Holes with an 8 mm diameter

    Internal corners and radii

The cutter is round, so internal corners receive a radius equal to the cutter radius – for example R3 with a ø6 mm cutter. If the part needs a sharp internal corner (e.g. for a joint), mark it and we will propose a solution.

    Text, logos and dimensions

Convert text and logos to curves. Remove dimension lines, frames and annotations from the working layers or move them to a separate layer.

    Part size

The working area is 2100 × 3700 mm – a full sheet without joints. For larger parts, discuss splitting and joining with us.

What to include in your enquiry

    • material and thickness
    • quantity of each part
    • whether the material is supplied by you or by us
    • grain/pattern direction for decors
    • required lead time

    Checklist before sending

    • 1:1 scale in mm
    • closed contours
    • no duplicated lines
    • one layer per operation, with depth
    • text converted to curves
    • material, thickness, quantity

    Frequently asked questions

Can I send only a PDF or a sketch?

Yes. Drawing preparation is included in the quote.

Why are internal corners not sharp?

Because the cutter is round: the corner radius equals the tool radius.

What is the maximum part size?

    2100 × 3700 mm in a single sheet.
